Veteran, Engineer, and UW Leader Cam Wright Announces Run for House District 46

LARAMIE, WY — Retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and University of Wyoming engineering professor Cameron Wright today announced his candidacy for Wyoming House District 46, citing the need for experienced, steady leadership focused on Wyoming’s future.

A Republican and licensed Professional Engineer, Wright brings more than three decades of military service and over 20 years at the University of Wyoming. He served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences from 2019 to 2025, helping expand student opportunities and strengthen ties between education and Wyoming’s workforce.

“I believe Wyoming is at a turning point,” Wright said. “We need leaders who understand the challenges we face and are ready to do the work. I’ve spent my career solving problems, leading teams, and serving this country and this state. I’m running to bring that same focus and accountability to the legislature.”

Wright served for 30 years in the U.S. military, both enlisted and as an officer, in the Navy and the Air Force. His campaign will focus on practical, Wyoming-first solutions that support families, strengthen the economy, and preserve the state’s way of life.

Wright’s priorities include:

  • Keeping Wyoming Lands Accessible and Protected

Supporting responsible use of public lands while preserving access for future generations.

  • Building an Economy Where Families Can Stay

Expanding job opportunities so Wyoming graduates can build their futures at home.

  • Strengthening Core Industries and Growing New Ones

Backing energy, agriculture, and small business while encouraging new investment and innovation.

  • Supporting Strong Schools and Workforce Training

Investing in K–12 education, school choice, and career and technical pathways tied to real jobs.

  • Defending Constitutional Rights

Protecting the Second Amendment and private property rights.

Wright said House District 46 would benefit from leadership grounded in service, accountability, and results.

Wright has lived in Albany County for more than 23 years, where he and his wife, who comes from a multigenerational Wyoming family, raised their son, who is now graduating from Laramie High School. Wright said those roots give him a clear understanding of the priorities facing local families.

“This is home,” Wright said. “And I’m committed to doing my part to keep it strong for the next generation.”
